Portrait photography is my favorite kind of photography, and hopefully I can teach you how to love it just as much as I do. Portrait photography is taking pictures of people and trying to adequately portray a personality or feeling to the viewer. My goal is always to try and make the person viewing my portraits feel as though they've known the person all their lives.
Below is a link to a great website that has a few key pointers that I would like you to read and summarize. The summary should be 1 paragraph and will be due on 9/9/10. Please email me your summary with your name as the title of the email and "Portrait summary" on the first line.
After that, your assignment is to take 5 portraits of different people. Two of these must be in black and white. Pick your favorite of the five, and write a one page paper on which elements of composition are included in the photograph (must have at least three DIFFERENT elements) and why they make your photograph better.
Below I included a few more examples of my own work. Remember, portraits do not have to be just one person, and don't forget to play around with some props in your photos!
